TDR Temporary Relocation

As we move to the next phase of the TDR Renovation, it is time for the temporary closure of TDR. This closure will give American University and AU Kitchen the time to make sure the new TDR will be ready for the Fall semester. During this time, TDR will be temporarily relocating to MGC 128. TDR will close its doors at the end of dinner service on Friday, March 29th, and MGC 128 will open for breakfast on Monday, April 1st. Upon opening, the temporary space will run on the same hours as TDR.

On both Saturday and Sunday, we will offer a catered brunch in the Tavern from 10AM – 2PM in place of the traditional TDR brunch. For dinner, our chefs will offer a pop-up station in the Tavern providing a hot protein, vegetable, starch, and salad; including vegan and avoiding gluten options from 5PM – 8:30PM. Delicious Without meals can also be picked up at this station. Students will be able to utilize a meal swipe during brunch and the pop-up dinner station. Additional retail locations will be open during this weekend to offset the closure of the residential space. This includes extended hours at Panera on Saturday and the opening of Halal Shack, Baba’s Pizza, and True Burger all weekend. To see location hours check out Dine On Campus.

Dining Options and Operations at MGC 128:

All of your favorite stations will still be available in the temporary dining space at MGC 128. Each of our dining stations plays a different role in ensuring each student can get a delicious and safe meal that fits their needs! Stations will include: Rooted made with vegan options, Delicious Without made without the top 9 allergens and gluten, Avoiding Gluten made without gluten options, and Bowls & Beyond offering halal proteins.

To streamline service and reduce wait times, omelets and breakfast sandwiches will be available at True Burger. These can be ordered via the Grubhub kiosk in MGC 128 as part of a meal swipe or through Grubhub using meal exchange, dining dollars, or traditional payment methods. This option is available during regular breakfast hours on weekdays and brunch hours on weekends.

Sustainability and Seating

We are transitioning to compostable serviceware to accommodate the limited space in our dish room. Additionally, reusable OZZI containers will remain available and their use is encouraged! The option to take food to go will be made available for students throughout the temporary relocation. Our team remains committed to composting food scraps throughout meal preparation. As part of our plan, furniture including tables and chairs from the Tavern and TDR will be distributed throughout the first floor of MGC allowing for seating close to 600. This setup ensures ample seating space for students to enjoy their meals comfortably.

We're excited to share this new dining adventure with you and remain committed to providing delicious meals in a safe and sustainable environment. Stay tuned for more updates and information as we approach the opening of MGC 128.
